We stayed at Wonderland RV Park, site #3, October 15 & 16, a Good Sam Park. This is a very nice park. The cost for our 2 night stay was $97.26. There are 12 pull thru full service sites, 20 back in only full service sites, 4 tent sites, 2 car camp sites, 2 larger cabins & 2 smaller cabins, 2 sites with water & electric only and a sheep camp. There is a dog run, basketball court, fire pit and picnic table area. There is a store on site where ice can be purchased and a lounge area connected to the office. The laundry area has 4 washers, cost is $2 and 4 dryers, cost is $1 for 60 minutes. There is a separate bathroom area for men & women, 3 separate showers with coded locks and each has a toilet area in them. The hot water is timed, 7 minutes and then a 5 minute wait until you can get another 7 minutes of hot water. One of the showers is labeled ADA compliant, but all 3 seem to be. You are NOT allowed to wash your vehicle or RV. There is an area on the backside of the bathhouse for washing dishes.
The RV Park is right off Hwy 24 so there is a bit of street noise. The truckers use their Jake brakes occasionally, but we were able to sleep just fine.
We went to a local burger joint called Slacker’s our first night. Chad had the Outlaw Burger which came with fries, but he upgraded to onion rings. He said it was very tasty. I had the chicken chunk basket which came with shoestring fries. The chicken was very juicy, but the coating on the outside was very heavy and didn’t seem to have any seasoning.
As we were driving to the Capital Reef National Park Visitor Center to obtain a map, we decided to check out the Gooseneck Overlook. We saw a wonderful couple driving a remodeled Model T Ford and were able to get a picture of it in the parking lot of the Visitor Center. We then took the drive to the Capital Gorge Trailhead and walked until we came to The Tanks and tried to find those, but the trail isn’t marked very well. We tried and tried, but were unable to find them. The area is very beautiful and the weather was perfect for our outing.
When we were at Slacker’s we noticed that they had some yummy desserts so we decided to go back the 2nd night and try their fried cheesecake and peach cobbler. Fried cheesecake dusted with cinnamon and sugar, served with cinnamon ice cream and drizzled with caramel. Words. Cannot. Describe.
